ABOUT US

Everlasting Cakes

Born of an obsessive compulsive cake fetish disorder, Everlasting Cakes rose from the ovens to create a range of cake paintings and cake painting products in celebration of the cake.

Everlasting Cakes News

July 2008
As with any project there are peaks and troughs;...after a very dull deep winter trough Everlasting Cakes has celebrated an invitation to Chicago, The Big Moo Fringe Festival, Food4Media event, Make Me an Offer I Can’t Refuse Sale, Exhibiting with Purple Poppy plus a fundraiser for Willen Hospice on Pancake Day!

At the end of July my sister Lynda and I visited Chicago as we were invited to be part of Wynter Whiteside’s Sugarcraft Exhibition at Kasia Kay. Here we exhibited Burp – the Movie (on which Lynda is the fabby and talented animator), Sprinkle Sandwich and of course Everlasting Cakes Books. Our work was well received and latest news from Wynter is that the show will travel to New York at the end of August.
See links for more info.

Over the weekend of 11th July I am honoured to be part of Sally Annett’s Big Moo Fringe Festival. Sally has partnered retailers with artist in Milton Keyes - an event not to be missed. I’ll be working with Thornton’s, The Place to Eat, John Lewis and Patisserie Valerie – Thank you all for this opportunity. See links for more info.

I am now working with Andrea Desfarges of Red Box PR. She arranged a spot at the Food4 Media networking evening at the London Intercontinental Hotel’s Cook Book Cafe. A big hello to all I spoke with – it’s wonderful to receive your support.

The fabby team at Willen Hospice invited me to be part of their Pancake Day fundraiser – - I’m pleased I was a spectator as the obstacle course in Middleton Hall required agility and complete lack of dignity.

As part of Spring Cleaning Fever I held a sale at my Studio at Westbury Farm. Invitations were issued ; ‘Make Me An Offer I Can’t Refuse and You Are Not Embarrassed By’ - accompanied with copious amounts of red box wine and Twigletts. This was a fun weekend with loads of work being exchanged for Hard Cash, photography, mugs, bottles of wine, reflexology treatments, chocolate muffins and website development . I’m thrilled that all these pictures found new homes and I so hope they are enjoyed by all.

September sees a big change for our family, and I will be beginning work on the next project: The Everlasting Cook Book. I have already collected a number of recipes and am looking at this as a collaborative work – inviting all who have good recipes to participate. You will be fully credited and if your recipe has an anecdote please include this. The recipes are coming from all over the Planet as I want this to be an International piece of work. The three criteria for submissions are: The recipe must be do able (not complicated, or daunting), ingredients are accessible (no juice of Lesser Spotted Fuzzball), and it should have a degree of nutrition to it. In all recipes the best ingredients are recommended and I think this will feature savoury meals, but of course yummies will be part of the publication. Please send your contributions to kathy@everlastingcakes.co.uk – and mark it EC Cook Book Recipe. Please include your name and contact details!

All those featured in The Everlasting Cook Book will of course be fully credited and receive a copy once published

January 2008

Christmas for Everlasting Cakes was busy and productive! Over 100 cellophane wrapped Extraordinary Xmas Cakes were commissioned. These cakes were sold at Frosts Garden Centre Woburn Sands, given away by select businesses as gifts to their clients or as gifts to friends or family. I received news that one of these cakes was well received in Scotland!

Since September, Road Shows have included BBC Good Food Show at Olympia (at which we were unofficially voted as having the best stand), Holdenby House Christmas Fair, Woburn Sculpture Gallery Spirit of Christmas and in January at the same venue The Sculpture Gallery Wedding Fair (at which my Wedding Cake paintings were exhibited).

September 2007
Since I last posted news in June, I have survived the summer and must have made at least a million cupcakes for various promotions and roadshows! Most of these have been happily eaten by all, bar twenty which were woofed up by my appreciative dog, Josh. The family were not so appreciative and he then skulked around the house for two weeks after his telling off!

Places I’ve visited with Everlasting Cakes promotions and orders include Bucks County Show (with the boundlessly energetic Becky & Julia from Macmillan Cancer Support), Waterstones Midsummer Place in Milton Keynes, Holdenby House Food Show, the wonderful Daylesford Organic in the Cotswolds and Borders for Harry Potter launch. For the latter, Everlasting Cakes was present with loads of yummy homemade biscuits and the children were invited to make their own ‘Bertie Botts Every Flavour Biscuits’ by adding choice toppings – I think the most popular were ear wax, fungus and vomit (all made up of a concoction of edible toppings).

Wellbake
In my search for the perfect baking apparatus I have been experimenting with flexible bakeware and have had a great success with Wellbake products – especially for my little samples. Wellbake are so supportive of Everlasting Cakes and have invited me to sell their products. What I have on offer is two 6 pans or one 12 pan and an Everlasting Cake Book (signed if you wish) for £20.00. This is a fabby offer as the pans on their own sell for £15.99! If you want to take advantage of this AMAZING offer please contact me via contact us link on front page . See www.wellbake.co.uk for more of their excellent products.

In Early September I will be talking to the Sugarcraft Guild, with a demo of cake painting and the Everlasting Cakes Story. On Tuesday 25th September I will be in Middleton Hall with Macmillan promoting their World’s Biggest Coffee Morning which is held on Friday 28th September. I have created for them a cuppofchino cupcake recipe. Please see Macmillan Cancer Support Website for further details and the event.

The next few months will be working towards shows for the end of the year, and I’ll post a list of these as soon as the venues are confirmed. In the meantime enjoy the new pictures – a few taken at a recent promotional photo shoot and also at Waterstones - all taken by Paul Van den Hende. I’ve added a sausage eating pic (by Legge) as photographers seem to enjoy seeing me enjoying!

Lastly, news is that the movie made of me being a TVchefwannabe and all of us @ Westbury by the marvellous people at Podtv will be available at the end of this month – watch this space!

June 2007

During a recent trip to Dubai, a number of bookstores expressed an interest in Everlasting Cakes - go book!!

I’ll also try the Portuguese market when I visit family at the beginning of June - wish me luck!

Everlasting Cakes has a number of recipes from different countries - the Halva Cake has an Arabic influence, plus Bolo Rei, Pasteis de Nata and Broa Castellar are all from Portugal! Everlasting Cakes is well on its way…

I was honoured to part of Macmillan’ Walk Wonders at Althorp in May. It was the rainiest day ever, yet so many people turned up and walked round the Althorp Estate to raise money for the charity. Thank you to everyone who visited my stall and I hope you enjoyed the cupcakes. I have also had a number of internet sales from this event as most of you felt it was a bit wet to be buying cookbooks! Happy Baking

I’ve added a few photographs as the feedback is I need to have a profile… sadly no formal poses - the first few are from a photo shoot done for Tarot & Tiffin in Feb 2007.

I’m photographed with the fabby and talented Sally Annett.

Sally is a brilliant painter and co author of The Atavist Tarot; available from all good bookstores. This photo shoot degenerated into a massive foodfight - let me know if I should post these images in my next newsletter.

The other is a pic taken during my recent trip to Dubai.

I’ve edited out the ugly ones.

I have lots of summer fairs planned, and will list these in my next news snippet. Thanks as ever for your support!

A reminder to have a look at the latest addition to my range: glowcards are now available, paints imported from USA and totally exquisite when the light go out! The cards are blank for your own message, and each little painting is an original work of art!

That’s all for now!

April 2007

6 months since Everlasting Cakes was first published and what a rollercoaster it has been! Really good sales in November and December, then utter quiet for a few months! I have had some really good support from local outlets such as Borders, artworks-mk and stores in Stony Stratford. Internet sales have been good too, plus it is with great pleasure that my books are being sold through Macmillan Cancer Support as a fundraiser. With regards to the latter, I’ll be at the Althorp House Walk Wonders event with cakes and books on Sunday 13th May. See www.macmillan.org.uk/walk for more details. I will also be raising funds for Willen Hospice at their Annual Garden Party on Sunday 30th June.

In September it is the Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, where my books are being sold in Middleton Hall. I will be creating a special cake for the coffee morning – watch this space!?

I so hope we have good weather this summer, as Everlasting Cakes has a stall at Folk on the Green in Stony Stratford on 10th June – hope to see you there!

London Book Fair proved to be dampest of squids (or is it squibs)? loads of stiletto clicking chix and foppish boys none of whom wished to speak to authors. Thank you to the fabby and courteous gentleman in the International Rights Centre who did give me a bit of time, good advice and tho very busy was able to give me his attention, rather than looking over my shoulder to see who he might be missing. I so appreciate your input and calling me to collect my index card - hope you enjoyed the cake!

Do have a look at a new addition to the range as glowcards are now available, paints imported from USA and totally exquisite when the lights go out!

That’s all for now!
